Those on the prowl for a custom knife will eventually discover that Mercworx knives are created by a single knife maker that does all of the grinding, sculpting, sanding, fitting, fabrication and final finishing by hand. Professionals use these knives for fighting in the field. Mercworx knives are of higher quality and more highly finished than other craftsmen. Mercworx larger tactical knives are made of 1/4 inch 154CM steel, and upgrade to the S30V steel. 154cm is the best steel for hard used knives. Even the smallest of the blades will make a large wound due to the thickness of the blade. Mercworx chose fine sanding over blasting as it makes the knives easier to clean, and less susceptible to the elements.
These knives are quite comfortable because of the manufacturers overall design and meticulous detail. The design, feel and balance of the knives are outstanding. The Mercworx Sniper , Equatorian and Orion feature Mercworx's unique upswept thumb ramp on the top of the knives. This way the blade will not cut your palm when you push against an object. On the bottom of the knives are extended protrusions of the blade that will keep your hand from sliding foreword. You will notice that the handle sports standard black micarta that is fixed to the handle, and are made to handle with sub-zero temperatures. The knives also have a large blade (land area), which makes the knife heavier for chopping and prying.
They feature a smooth handle because it has firm retention in a confrontation and a decently comfortable grip. Rather than selecting just one of these qualities, Mercworx spent a lot producing a handle that does both. The knives feature a thumb stop, to make the knives more usable. The user can hold the Mercworx in what is known as the extended saber grip by pushing down on the thumb stop to align the blade with his forearm. This way the knife will feel as though it were an extension of your forearm. The flared tip on the blades are designed that way to produce damage upon penetration. They work the same way as the hollow point bullet.
